How much does car rental cost in Tunisia? 2026 prices

How much does it cost to rent a car in Tunisia? In the Rencaro catalogue on 27 September 2026, a week's rental cost from 595 TND for a Kia Picanto to 2,800 TND for a nine-seat minibus — 85 to 400 TND a day, basic insurance and taxes included. For most travellers, who rent a city car or a saloon, the budget sits between 85 and 100 TND a day. Here is the breakdown by model, what makes the price move, and the full budget for a week, fuel included.

The rates we recorded, model by model

Daily rate for a seven-day rental picked up in mid-October, recorded on 27 September 2026:

Vehicle Gearbox Price per day Price per week
Kia Picanto manual 85 TND 595 TND
Skoda Fabia, Dacia Logan, Dacia Sandero, Hyundai i20, VW Virtus, Kia Rio manual 90 TND 630 TND
Seat Ibiza manual 95 TND 665 TND

Renault Clio 5 manual or automatic 100 TND 700 TND
Hyundai i20, VW Virtus automatic 100 TND 700 TND
Seat Ibiza, Ibiza Style FR, Dacia Sandero Stepway automatic 130 TND 910 TND
Suzuki Jimny (4×4) automatic 200 TND 1,400 TND
Peugeot Traveller (9 seats) manual 400 TND 2,800 TND

These are total prices: what you see when you book is what you pay the agency for the rental. They change with the dates and the catalogue, and only the price shown for your search counts.

What makes the price move

The model and the gearbox. This is the main factor. Switching from a manual to an automatic usually costs 5 to 10 TND more a day; the details are in our article on renting an automatic car in Tunisia.

The length of the rental. The daily rate drops slightly from one week on some models — the Dacia Logan goes from 95 TND a day over three days to 90 TND over seven — then levels off beyond two weeks. The figures for a full month are in long-term car rental.

The town and the season? Less than you might think, on the date of our snapshot: the same model showed the same daily rate from Greater Tunis, Djerba or Tozeur, and for a pick-up in October 2026, January or August 2027. Agencies can adjust their rates at any time, though; in summer it is mainly availability that tightens, and the cheapest models go first.

The full budget for a week

The rental price is not the only cost. Example for a week in a Kia Picanto, covering 800 km:

Item Amount
Rental, 7 days 595 TND
Fuel: about 48 litres at 2.525 TND (6 l/100 km) about 121 TND
Tolls, for example a Tunis–Sousse return trip 7.800 TND
Total spent about 724 TND
Deposit, returned at the end 2,000 TND

The deposit is not an expense, but you need to be able to put it down: it is paid to the agency at pick-up and returned when you bring the car back. What can be kept from it is explained in the car rental deposit in Tunisia. Official fuel and toll prices are in our guide to fuel and tolls in Tunisia.

What the price shown includes

The total price shown before you book covers the rental for the chosen period, taxes and the basic insurance required by law, with an excess you pay if the car is damaged. It does not include fuel, the deposit or any optional extra cover.

Nothing is paid online: the rental is paid to the partner agency at pick-up, and cancellation is free until the contract is signed.

Paying less, in practice

  • Choose the model for what you actually need, not what you fancy: the gap between a Kia Picanto and an automatic Seat Ibiza is more than 300 TND over a week. To decide, see how to choose the right rental car.
  • Book early for summer, when the cheapest city cars are the first to go.
  • Return the car with a full tank: missing fuel is billed with a service charge.
  • Stick to the return time: beyond one hour late, an extra day is due.
