Long-term car rental in Tunisia — several weeks, or a whole month — is booked just like a short rental: you enter your real dates and the daily rate for that length is calculated automatically. What you need to know before booking is how that rate changes with the length of the rental, and which contract rules start to matter once the rental stretches out.
What a month costs: the real figures
We recorded the rates in the Rencaro catalogue on 27 September 2026, for a pick-up in mid-October. The daily rate drops slightly from one week, then levels off:
| Model | 3 days | 7 days | 14 days | 30 days |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kia Picanto (manual) | 85 TND/day | 85 TND/day | 85 TND/day | 85 TND/day |
| Dacia Logan (manual) | 95 TND/day | 90 TND/day | 90 TND/day | 90 TND/day |
| Hyundai i20 (automatic) | 100 TND/day | 100 TND/day | 95 TND/day | 95 TND/day |
| Seat Ibiza (automatic) | 150 TND/day | 130 TND/day | 130 TND/day | 130 TND/day |
| Peugeot Traveller, 9 seats | 400 TND/day | 400 TND/day | 350 TND/day | 350 TND/day |
For a month, that comes to 2,550 TND in a Kia Picanto, 2,700 TND in a Dacia Logan and 2,850 TND in an automatic Hyundai i20, with the total price shown before you book.
Two lessons. First, there is a discount for longer rentals, but it is modest and mostly applies between three days and one or two weeks. Second, beyond two weeks the daily rate stopped falling in our sample. These rates change: the only reference is the price shown for your dates when you book.
One rental rather than several
Booking four weeks in one go costs the same per day as two two-week rentals, but saves you returning the car, doing a new inspection and paying a new deposit halfway through your stay. It also guarantees you keep the same car for the whole period, which matters in high season, when availability tightens from one week to the next.
The same logic applies to payment: no card is needed to book, and the rental is paid at the agency at pick-up, for the whole agreed period. How that works is explained in renting a car in Tunisia without a credit card.
Book the length you are sure of
This is the key point of a long rental. The contract is binding: if you return the car before the agreed date, the unused days are not refunded.
An extension, on the other hand, is requested from the partner agency, ideally 72 hours ahead. It depends on the car being available and is never guaranteed. If your return date is uncertain, book the minimum you are sure of, then ask for an extension as soon as your plans firm up — not on the last day, especially in July and August.
Obligations that matter over time
Over three days, nobody thinks about maintenance. Over a month, a few rules in the rental conditions become very real:
- Routine maintenance is the agency's responsibility. Repairs and replacement parts or tyres due to normal wear are not charged to you.
- Checking fluid levels is yours. The conditions ask you to check oil and water roughly every 500 km.
- No repairs without written consent. If something goes wrong, call the agency before any garage touches the car.
- Mileage is set out in the contract: if you plan long distances, check it when you sign.
Changing town during your stay
A long rental suits a stay that starts in Greater Tunis and ends on the coast or in the south. Returning the car in another town is possible from a minimum rental length, shown in the search form as soon as you choose a different return location; any one-way fee is already included in the price shown.
If you are staying mostly around the capital, start from the car rental in Greater Tunis page.
Who long-term rental suits
The most common profiles are Tunisians living abroad who spend the summer back home, professionals on assignments of several weeks, and families temporarily based somewhere during building work or a move. For the first group, organising a whole summer is covered in our guide to renting a car in Tunisia for the summer holidays.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to rent a car for a month in Tunisia?
In our sample of 27 September 2026, a month came to 2,550 TND for a Kia Picanto, 2,700 TND for a Dacia Logan and 2,850 TND for an automatic Hyundai i20. The exact price depends on your dates and is shown before you book.
Does the daily rate go down for longer rentals?
A little, mainly between three days and two weeks: up to 20 TND less per day depending on the car — no drop on the Kia Picanto, already the cheapest — and 50 TND less on the nine-seat Peugeot Traveller.
Can I return the car earlier than planned?
Yes, but the unused days are not refunded: the contract is binding. It is better to book the length you are sure of and ask for an extension if needed.
Who pays for maintenance during a long-term rental?
The agency covers maintenance and normal wear. You keep an eye on oil and water levels, and you contact the agency before any repair.
