Hammam Lif is recognisable from a distance: the town sits against the twin horns of Boukornine, whose national park looks out over the whole southern bay. A spa resort favoured in the nineteenth century, it kept a corniche and an architecture unlike anything else in the suburbs.
What to see and do
Boukornine national park can be driven to and then explored on foot — it is the only wooded high ground immediately reachable from Tunis. Down below, the baths and the seafront promenade need no car, and the coast continues towards Hammam Chott and Borj Cedria.
Practicalities
The old centre's streets are narrow and steep as you approach the mountain, so a compact car is easier to handle. The park road is paved but winding, and the GP1 stays busy at peak times since it carries the whole southern suburb's traffic.
