Renting a car in Ben Arous Ville: what to know

Ben Arous is the seat of the governorate bordering Tunis to the south — an administrative town wrapped around one of the oldest industrial belts in the country. Few people come here to sightsee; a great many come to work.

Why it works as a base

Position is the whole argument. The southern terminus of the Tunis light metro sits in town, the GP1 trunk road runs through it, and the A1 motorway towards Hammamet and Sousse is a few minutes off without doubling back through the capital. Central Tunis is about fifteen minutes outside rush hour, and Radès port barely further.

Practicalities

Roads fill early: traffic towards Tunis is already heavy before 8am, and the industrial estates keep a steady flow of lorries moving on weekdays. Parking, on the other hand, is a non-issue — one of the genuine reasons to collect a car here rather than downtown.

Frequently asked questions — Ben Arous Ville

About fifteen minutes outside rush hour, with the GP1 leading straight in and the light metro's southern terminus in town. Allow considerably more between 7:30 and 9am, when traffic towards the capital is already heavy.

That is its main advantage: the A1 towards Hammamet, Sousse and Sfax is a few minutes away without crossing Tunis, and Radès port is close by.

No — noticeably easier than in central Tunis, which is one reason to pick the car up here. Do allow extra time if your route skirts the industrial estates on a weekday, where lorry traffic is constant.

Online, with a 3-day minimum: licence and ID are uploaded when you book, and payment is settled at the agency on pick-up. Deposit and minimum age vary by agency and appear on each listing.
