Getting around in Sousse

Capital of the Sahel coast, Sousse pairs a UNESCO-listed medina with the long Boujaafar beach and the Port El Kantaoui marina ten kilometres up the coast. A rental car here is less about the city itself — the medina and seafront are walkable — and more about exploring one of the richest day-trip regions in Tunisia.

The classic excursions from Sousse

Kairouan with its Great Mosque, the Roman amphitheatre of El Jem and the fishing port of Mahdia are each about an hour's drive: three day trips that justify the rental on their own. Monastir and its Ribat fortress are twenty kilometres away, and Tunis is 1h45 up the A1 motorway.

Booking at the right time

Sousse is in high demand in July-August and during school holidays: the best cars go weeks in advance and rates rise with demand. Out of season, prices are noticeably softer and the region is blissfully quiet. Compare offers from Sousse's partner agencies for your dates and book online.

About the Hyundai i20

The Hyundai i20 is one of the most complete superminis of its generation: modern styling, generous tech and the build quality behind the brand's recent reputation. It drives easily, parks anywhere and stays frugal day to day.

The cabin seats four adults comfortably and the boot keeps up for a trip of two or three. It's the no-obvious-compromise rental: neither the cheapest nor the biggest, but one of the most balanced in the segment.
