Getting around in Monastir

Monastir is one of the easiest coastal cities in Tunisia to drive: flat, open, with a corniche linking the Ribat — one of the most-filmed monuments in the country — to the Bourguiba mausoleum and the marina. The Skanes hotel zone stretches just next door, and Habib Bourguiba international airport sits on the city's doorstep.

An ideal base for the Sahel

From Monastir, Sousse and its UNESCO medina are twenty kilometres away, Mahdia and its beaches about 45 minutes, Kairouan and El Jem an hour's drive. It makes an excellent base camp: stay somewhere quiet and cover the whole Sahel without ever driving more than an hour.

Renting in Monastir

Partner agencies offer pick-up in town or on the airport side — the exact address is on each listing. In summer and during holidays, Sahel demand pushes prices up: booking a few weeks ahead remains the best way to get your choice of car at the best rate.

About the Hyundai i20

The Hyundai i20 is one of the most complete superminis of its generation: modern styling, generous tech and the build quality behind the brand's recent reputation. It drives easily, parks anywhere and stays frugal day to day.

The cabin seats four adults comfortably and the boot keeps up for a trip of two or three. It's the no-obvious-compromise rental: neither the cheapest nor the biggest, but one of the most balanced in the segment.
